JUST A REMINDER THAT WE HAVE A TWO HOUR EARLY OUT THIS WEDNESDAY AND TO BEGIN OUR SPRING BREAK, NO SCHOOL, THURSDAY, FRIDAY OR MONDAY, AND A REMINDER THAT THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS NOW THURSDAY, JUNE 5TH, WITH A TWO HOUR EARLY OUT ON THAT DAY.

IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD, THE LEGISLATORS DID PASS SUPPLEMENTAL STATE AID AT A DISAPPOINTING 2% ANOTHER YEAR OF LOW SUPPLEMENTAL STATE AID FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS, WE KNOW IF INFLATION IS REALLY HIGH, YET THE LEGISLATORS CONTINUE TO, IN MY OPINION, UNDERFUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

MARKETING, WE HAVE A HOUSE THAT TRADES STUDENTS BUILT. IT'S A BEAUTIFUL HOME.

I WAS OUT THERE JUST THE OTHER DAY TO CHECK IT OUT AND WATCH THE STUDENTS WORK FOR A LITTLE BIT, AND JUST WATCHING THEM WORK TOGETHER, PUT IN THE FLOORS. IT'S REALLY EXCITING.

THEN THE NEXT STEP WOULD BE THAT I SUBMIT IT ELECTRONICALLY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT, AND THEN I ALSO TAKE IT OVER TO THE COUNTY AND DELIVER IT TO THEM.

BUT WE'LL BRIEFLY LOOK AT THIS.

PAGE 2 IS THE GENERAL FUND REVENUES.

THESE ARE REALLY ESTIMATED FROM WHAT'S IN THE DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT'S DRAFT AID AND LEVY.

I THINK THESE NUMBERS ARE PRETTY SOLID.

I DON'T ANTICIPATE THEM CHANGING VERY MUCH.

THEN IF WE GO TO PAGE 5, IT SHOWS OUR 25 RE ESTIMATED EXPENSES, ALL OF THE 26 INCREASES.

THEN TO COME TO OUR TOTAL AND THEN BY FUNCTION, IT SHOWS THEM BY FUNCTION, SHOWS THE REDUCTIONS TO GET TO FY 26 ESTIMATED EXPENDITURES OF 202.8 MILLION.

WE'LL CERTIFY THE BUDGET A LITTLE BIT HIGHER THAN THAT AT

203.5 MILLION BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T TAKEN OUT THE AEA PIECE YET.

THAT'S ABOUT 1.2 MILLION MORE THAN WHEN WE WERE PLANNING FOR WHAT THE BUDGET INCREASE COULD BE A LITTLE IT OR 1.2 MILLION OF GREATER THAN WHAT WE WERE TARGETING AT WE WERE TARGETING A 2.5% INCREASE.

PAGE 7 SHOWS THAT THE FIRST COLUMN SHOWS THE GENERAL FUND FUND BALANCE IN THE RED THERE, WE'RE GOING TO USE RESERVES OF ABOUT FIVE MILLION.

THEN ON THE OR THE SPENDING AUTHORITY SIDE, WE'LL BE USING RESERVES OF ABOUT 1.4 MILLION.

WE ARE GOING TO USE CASH FASTER THAN SPENDING AUTHORITY BECAUSE WE HAVE THINGS LIKE SPECIAL ED DEFICIT AND SOME OTHER THINGS WHERE WE GET SPENDING AUTHORITY, BUT WE DON'T GET CASH.

ALL THE REST OF THE PAGES ARE ALL OF THE OTHER DETAILED BUDGETS, MANAGEMENT FUND, SALES TAX, PEP, DEBT SERVICE, SCHOOL NUTRITION FUND.

THIS IS THE ADOPTED BUDGET.

THIS HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE WE WERE WORKING WITH THE TAXPAYER STATEMENT WHEN THAT WENT OUT.

THIS IS THE ACCUMULATION OF THIS IS THE DETAIL, THIS IS BY FUNDS, SHOWS THE DETAIL BY FUND.

PAGE 18 SHOWS THE PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX RATES.

IT'S STILL THAT $12.38, BASICALLY, NO CHANGE FROM PRIOR YEAR.

THIS IS AT THE END OF OUR BUDGET CALENDAR.

THE RECOMMENDATION IS THAT THE BOARD OF DIRECTOR CERTIFIES THE FY 26 BUDGET WITH AN EXPECTED MAXIMUM RATE OF $12.38 PER $1,000 OF ASSESSED VALUE AND AN INCOME CIRCOM TAX OF 4%.

THEN WHAT YOU SEE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PAGE IS SHOWING THE COLUMN THAT SAYS PROPOSED SCHOOL BUDGET SUMMARY PUBLICATION.

THOUGH THAT WAS WHAT WAS PUBLISHED AND OUR ADOPTED BUDGET CANNOT EXCEED THOSE AMOUNTS, AND THEY'RE RIGHT ON.

WE HAVEN'T CHANGED THEM SINCE WE HAVE THE PROPOSED BUDGET SUMMARY THAT WAS PUBLISHED.

BUT AS YOU SAID, THE SPENDING AUTHORITY IS NOT THAT MUCH BECAUSE WE'RE GETTING CREDIT BACK FOR ELL AND SPED NO CASH, BUT CREDIT BACK FOR SPENDING AUTHORITY PURPOSES, IS THAT CORRECT?

I WOULD COMMEND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE BOARD, THE ADMINISTRATORS, PATTY, FOR LOOKING AT THIS, THREE YEARS AGO, FOUR YEARS AGO, KNOWING THAT THE CLIFF WAS COMING AND DOING THE RIGHT THINGS TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT WASN'T A BIG CLIFF AND THAT WE WERE PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE. KUDOS. THANK YOU.

WE HAVE WITH US MEMBERS OF OUR K 12 ART CURRICULUM TEAM, AND I WILL LET THEM INTRODUCE THEMSELVES, AND THEN THEY ARE GOING TO SHARE INFORMATION WITH YOU.

I JUST WANT TO START OUT WITH ART IS ESSENTIAL BECAUSE IT FOSTERS CREATIVITY, CRITICAL THINKING, AND SELF EXPRESSION, WHILE NURTURING THOSE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL GROWTH, CULTURAL AWARENESS, AND THE 21ST CENTURY SKILLS STUDENTS NEED TO THRIVE IN AN EVER CHANGING WORLD.

OUR DISTRICT HAS NEVER HAD VETTED CURRICULUM FOR ART.

IN THE PAST, WE'VE HAD OUR STANDARDS AND THINGS THAT PACING THAT WE KNEW THAT WE NEEDED TO HIT, BUT TEACHERS WERE OUT THERE LOOKING FOR THEIR OWN LESSONS, DOING ALL THE HARD WORK OURSELVES.

WE NEVER HAD ANYTHING IN THE PAST THAT ACTUALLY WAS VETTED CURRICULUM THAT WE COULD TEACH OUR STUDENTS.

THIS IS WHY WE'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH.

ART OF EDUCATION, FLEX, AND PRO PROVIDE A STRUCTURAL, HIGH QUALITY RESOURCE TO SUPPORT BOTH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

WE'VE BEEN GOING THROUGH THE CURRICULUM REVIEW PROCESS.

WE'VE BEEN EXAMINING THE STANDARDS, SOME PACING, DETERMINING STRATEGIES, DEVELOP ELEMENTARY CURRICULUM MAPS THAT HAVE STARTED WITH THIS WORK, AND THEN WE'VE ALSO STARTED WITH SOME SECONDARY WORK WITH THIS CURRICULUM AS WELL.

WE'VE PLANNED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AROUND IT.

WE'VE BEEN IMPLEMENTING NEW RESOURCES THIS PAST YEAR WITH HALF OF OUR CLASSROOMS. WE'VE ALSO DONE SOME PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH THIS, SO WE CAN GET OUR TEACHERS ON BOARD.

>> NEXT YEAR, WE CAN PLAN FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION WITH OUR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS AND START IMPLEMENTING AND WRITING CURRICULUM WITH OUR SECONDARY TEACHERS.

THERE'S THE ART OF ED PRO LEARNING AND THEN THE FLEX CURRICULUM.

WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE FLEX FIRST, AND THAT IS REALLY OUR CURRICULUM.

THAT'S GOING TO BE LOTS OF VIDEOS, RESOURCES, LESSONS, HANDOUTS FOR KIDS, JUST A TON OF THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF THINGS FOR OUR STUDENTS TO USE.

IT'S GOING TO BE SO BENEFICIAL TO OUR KIDS BECAUSE IT IS ACTUALLY CREATED BY ART TEACHERS SO WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE GREAT LESSONS THAT WORK IN THE ART ROOM.

I CAN GRAB ALL MY LESSON PLANS THAT I WANT.

I CAN DESIGN UNITS THAT BEST FIT ME AND IT PROVIDES ALL THE LESSON PLANS FOR ME.

I DON'T HAVE TO WRITE THEM FROM SCRATCH.

TALKING ABOUT WHY THAT LEADS TO LESS TEACHER RETENTION, TEACHERS WILL NOT GET BURNED OUT BECAUSE THEY'RE PROVIDED WITH THESE RESOURCES.

THEY'RE NOT SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME THERE.

THEY'RE PROVIDED THESE RESOURCES THAT MAKE THEM CONFIDENT IN THEIR LEARNING AND WANT TO PROGRESS MORE FOR THEIR STUDENTS.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT HIGH-QUALITY ENGAGING LESSONS LIKE WE'VE REPEATED, AND THEN INCREASING THAT TEACHER SATISFACTION.

SHE IS A FREELANCE GRAPHIC DESIGNER, BUT SHE'S ALSO A LIMESTONE ARTIST THAT SHE STARTED HER OWN COMPANY CALLED BEYOND DIAMONDS.

SHE HAS BEEN BRINGING OUT BASKETBALLS FOR THE NBA, THE NFL, IF YOU'VE SEEN ANYTHING IN SOCIAL MEDIA OR SOCCER WAS A BIG ONE THAT JUST HAPPENED LAST WEEK, I THINK.

BUT IN THE IMAGES, YOU CAN SEE THAT SHE'S BEEN PRETTY SUCCESSFUL.

WHEN I REACHED OUT TO HER, SHE DID MAKE A REALLY GREAT COMMENT THAT I THOUGHT I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU.

MY JOURNEY IS PROOF THAT A STRONG ART PROGRAM CAN SHAPE STUDENTS' FUTURES.

IT IS SO IMPORTANT FOR THE SOU CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT TO MAINTAIN AND INVEST IN AN ARTS CURRICULUM THAT NOT ONLY FOSTERS CREATIVITY BUT ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO SEE ART AS A LEGITIMATE CAREER PATH.

LAUREN WAS A STUDENT THAT WENT THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL ART CLASSES AND ENDED UP BEING IN AP ART.

THEN HERE'S SOME OTHER SUCCESS STORIES.

THESE ARE JUST A FEW THAT I GATHERED AT THE LAST MINUTE.

BUT WE'VE GOT MANY PEOPLE FROM WEST HIGH, NORTH HIGH, EAST HIGH GRADUATES THAT HAVE ART CAREERS THAT ARE VERY SUCCESSFUL, AND SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE ARE ART TEACHERS THAT WE HAVE IN OUR DISTRICT RIGHT NOW.

THIS IS A TESTIMONY FROM ANOTHER MIDDLE SCHOOL ART TEACHER.

KATIE OLSON SAYS THAT SHE HAS STARTED USING ART OF ED TO HELP INCORPORATE HISTORY INTO HER LESSONS A LITTLE BIT MORE AND CULTURAL THINGS WITHOUT CREATING EXTRA WORK FOR HER, DIVING DEEPER INTO THE CURRICULUM WITH THE STUDENTS, RESOURCES TO ENRICH HER CURRENT LESSONS BASICALLY.

IN SPRING OF 2024, MY ELEMENTARY ART TEACHERS THAT WERE WRITING CURRICULUM, THEY STARTED TO PILOT THE ART OF ED FLEX.

THEN AFTER THEY REALIZED THAT IT WAS GREAT, WE BROUGHT IT INTO YEAR TWO AND ALL OF THE ELEMENTARY TEACHERS HAVE A CHANCE TO TRY IT OUT AND SEE IF THEY REALLY LIKED IT.

IT WENT OVER PRETTY BIG. THEY LIKED IT A LOT.

WE DECIDED THAT WE WANTED TO IMPLEMENT MINUTE WITH ALL OF OUR TEACHERS, AND THEN OUR CURRICULUM TEAM STARTED REWRITING THE CURRICULUM.

WE STARTED PUTTING INTO OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

THEN NOW WE'RE WORKING ON NEXT YEAR.

EVERYBODY IN THE ELEMENTARY WILL BE USING THIS CURRICULUM AND THEN OUR SECONDARY TEACHERS WHERE WE'VE STARTED WRITING OUR CURRICULUM AND WE'LL BE WORKING ON THAT ALL OF NEXT YEAR, SO WE CAN IMPLEMENT IT IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

THIS IS A LESSON THAT USES EVERYDAY OBJECTS AND THEY WERE DOING STILL LIVES TO OBSERVE THESE OBJECTS, AND ALL OF THE RESOURCES THEY NEEDED WERE FROM THE ART OF ED.

THIS IS THE LESSON THAT I DID WITH MY KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS FROM THE ART OF ED AND IT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL AND EVERYTHING I NEEDED WAS RIGHT THERE ON THE PROGRAM.

WE WERE ACTUALLY ONE OF THE FIRST SCHOOLS TO PURCHASE.

THEY'VE ACTUALLY BEEN WORKING WITH US.

THEY'RE CONTINUING TO REDEFINE THE PROGRAM AND WORK WITH US TO MAKE IT FIT ALL OF OUR NEEDS.
