THEN IT WOULD CONTINUE IN FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE. THE SAME, UM, WHAT CAN BE SET? BEGIN AS A SINGLE CUT BECOMES A PERMANENT SHIFT IN ONE SECTION PER GRADE UP FOR THE NEXT YEAR. WITH ONLY ONE SECTION, ALL STUDENTS, REGARDLESS OF ACADEMIC NEEDS, BEHAVIOR CONSIDERATIONS, OR SUPPORT REQUIREMENTS, WOULD BE PLACED IN A SINGLE CLASSROOM, ALONG WITH ANY NEW STUDENTS THAT WOULD ARRIVE FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
CURRENTLY, STUDENTS ARE INTENTIONALLY SPLIT INTO TWO CLASSES FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS.
CLUSTER GROUPING FOR ENRICHMENT, ELL SUPPORT, IEP NEEDS, BEHAVIORAL CONSIDERATION, INCLUDING STUDENTS WHO SHOULD NOT BE PLACED TOGETHER, AND ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL PUSH-IN.
UNDER THE PROPOSED CHANGE, THESE STUDENTS WOULD REMAIN TOGETHER YEAR AFTER YEAR UNTIL THEY LEAVE RIVERSIDE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL. THIS IS NOT ALIGNED TO THE DISTRICT'S COMMITMENT TO MEETING STUDENTS WHERE THEY ARE OR SUPPORTING THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. WE RESPECTIVELY ASK THAT THE DISTRICT REVIEW THE BOUNDARY LINES TO DETERMINE WHETHER ENROLLMENT AT RIVERSIDE COULD BE INCREASED. ADJUSTING BOUNDARIES COULD RELIEVE PRESSURE ON THE WESTSIDE FEEDER SCHOOLS THAT EITHER ARE CURRENTLY AT OR NEAR CAPACITY, WHILE PERSEVERING THE TWO-SECTION STRUCTURE THAT ALLOWS RIVERSIDE TO FUNCTION EFFECTIVELY. WE RECOGNIZE THE COMPLEXITY OF DISTRICT-WIDE DECISIONS, AND WE APPRECIATE THE THOUGHTFUL CONSIDERATION THAT GOES INTO THEM. HOWEVER, WE DO STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT MAINTAINING TWO SECTIONS AT EACH GRADE LEVEL AT RIVERSIDE ELEMENTARY IS THE BEST INTEREST FOR BOTH STUDENTS AND STAFF.
AS THE DISTRICT PROUDLY STATES, YOUR CHILD IS OUR PRIORITY. WE ASK THAT RIVERSIDE STUDENTS AND STAFF BE CONSIDERED A PRIORITY AS THE DECISIONS ARE FINALIZED FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.

AT THE END OF THE MEETING, I PRESENTED SOME WORK THAT I HAD DONE TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH REVENUE WE WOULD LIKELY BE ABLE TO OBTAIN FROM SELLING SALES TAX REVENUE BONDS FOR THE PROJECTS THAT ARE IN THE A FACILITY STUDY. AND THE ANSWER THAT I CAME UP WITH, AND IT'S BEEN VALIDATED SEVERAL TIMES, IS ABOUT $210 MILLION, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF MONEY, AND IT IS. THEY WERE THE, WHEN IT CAME TO THE FOUR ADDITIONAL PRINCIPALS AND THE STIPENDS FOR OUTSIDE OF CONTRACT HOUR WORK. I'D LIKE TO START THIS DISCUSSION. DR.MILLER. NOT NECESSARILY ALL THE WAY TRUE, ESPECIALLY WHERE MIDDLE SCHOOLS ARE CONCERNED. IF A MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL HAS BEEN THERE FOR MORE THAN THREE YEARS, THEY DID NOT INITIALLY SIGN UP FOR THAT. AND THE SAME STIPEND FOR ONE PRINCIPAL SHOULD NOT BE THE SAME STIPEND FOR ANOTHER. IF YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE FIVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE OR ANYTHING ELSE, BECAUSE THEIR SALARIES ARE NOT THE SAME. I THINK THAT BEFORE WE ADJOURN TONIGHT, WE WANT TO DO A SHOUT-OUT TO ALL THOSE PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY GENERALLY THAT SUPPORTED THE SING ALL ABOUT IT SHOW CHOIR COMPETITION AT EAST HIGH. I FORGOT THE NUMBER THAT WERE THERE, BUT IT WAS JUST A FABULOUS TURNOUT OF COMPETITORS FROM THE OTHER SCHOOLS AROUND. I HAD A GREAT DAY. I THINK IT WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER FOR THE SHOW CHOIR PROGRAMS AT EAST. AND WE THANK ALL THE PARENTS. AND THE TEACHERS THAT WERE INVOLVED AND THE EXTRA TIME AND EFFORT THAT WENT INTO A VERY SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM THAT HAS A GREAT REPUTATION AROUND THE REGION.
BEFORE WE ADJOURN, I NEED TO READ A STATEMENT HERE.
AFTER A GREAT DEAL OF THOUGHT, PRAYER, AND DISCUSSION, MY WIFE AND FAMILY HAVE MADE A DECISION TO STEP DOWN FROM THE SIOUX CITY SCHOOL COMMUNITY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD. THIS RESIGNATION WILL BE EFFECTIVE MARCH 10, 2026. I WANT TO SAY WITH WHAT A TREMENDOUS HONOR IT HAS BEEN TO SERVE THIS DISTRICT. HOW AM I DOING? TWO DIFFERENT CAPACITIES, FIRST AS A TEACHER AND COACH, AND THEN AS A MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL BOARD.
DURING THAT TIME, MY CIRCLE OF FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES HAS GROWN LARGER. I'VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING ALONG SOME MANY INCREDIBLE PEOPLE. THE LEADERSHIP OF THIS DISTRICT IS TRULY REMARKABLE. THE INDIVIDUALS TIRELESSLY DO AN OUTSTANDING JOB GUIDING THIS DISTRICT FORWARD. THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE SIOUX CITY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT OVER THE PAST FOUR AND A QUARTER YEARS ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF THEIR DEDICATION, VISION, AND LEADERSHIP. THE TEACHERS ARE REMARKABLE. THEY ARE NONE BETTER STATE AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE SUCCESS OF THIS DISTRICT. I'D BE OVERSTATED. I ALSO WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE STAFF MEMBERS WHO SUPPORT ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS EVERY DAY. REALLY BACKBONE OF THIS DISTRICT AND DESERVE RECOGNITION. SOME OF THE VERY BEST, NOT ONLY IN THE STATE. WE'RE RIGHT HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHY I MADE THIS DECISION AT THIS PARTICULAR JUNCTURE.
OVER THE PAST YEAR, BEING IN EXPERIENCE OF PAIN IN MY CHEST, MANY PEOPLE I CHOSE TO IGNORE THE WARNING SIGNS.
EVENTUALLY, I MADE IT, MENTIONED IT TO MY WIFE.
BEFORE LONG, IF YOU'RE MARRIED, YOU KNOW THIS, BEFORE LONG, I FOUND MYSELF SEEING ONE

DOCTOR, THEN ANOTHER, AND FINALLY, WE HAD THE ANSWERS.DOCTORS DISCOVERED THAT I HAD SIGNIFICANT LOGGAGES. REMAIN ARTERIES. AS YOU'LL LEARN, THEY UNDERGO A TRIPLE BYPASS IN ABOUT TWO WEEKS. WATCH MY DAUGHTERS GROW OLDER, TO SEE MY GRANDCHILDREN GROW UP AND FIND THEIR PLACE IN THE WORLD. IMPORTANTLY, TO GROW OLD WITH MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE. WE HAVE MANY PLANS, INCLUDING LAWN MOTORCYCLE TRIPS. SEE MORE OF THE WONDERS THIS WORLD HAS TO OFFER MEMBERS OF THIS BOARD. FOR YOU TO SEEK SOMEONE WITH VALUE, BALANCE, INTEGRITY, AND THOUGHTFUL LEADERSHIP WHEN FILLING THIS SEAT. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO WORK, TO SEEK COMMON GROUND, SHARED PRINCIPLES, STUDENTS AND STAFF OF THIS DISTRICT AT THE CENTER OF EVERY DECISION. REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE EXPERTS IN YOUR RESPECTIVE FIELDS, JUST AS OUR EDUCATORS ARE EXPERTS IN THEIRS. WHEN THOSE STRENGTHS COME TOGETHER, GREAT THINGS CAN HAPPEN FOR OUR SCHOOLS.
